From AI Voice Agents to AI Employees: Inside Callin at AI Week 2026

At Europe’s largest artificial intelligence event the Turin-based voice-tech company did not show up with yet another demo, but with two brand-new products: the AI Video Agents and the AI Email Agents.

There are trade fairs measured in square meters of exhibition space, and trade fairs measured in the density of ideas. AI Week, the seventh edition held at Fiera Milano Rho on May 19–20, clearly belongs to the second category - although, to be fair, it also covered quite a few square meters.

This year, the numbers tell the story of an event that has outgrown being a local exhibition and has become Europe’s showcase for the AI industry.

More than 700 speakers across 17 stages, over 250 companies in the exhibition area, speakers arriving from 78 countries, and nearly half of the program entrusted to international voices.

The organizers had set the bar at 25,000 attendees: by the time the gates closed, reports counted close to 30,000. It is the thermometer of a sector that, according to projections highlighted during the event, is expected to grow by over 33% annually in Europe through 2030. In other words: AI has stopped being a niche discussion for specialists and has become a matter of business economics for anyone running a company.

It is within this crowd - managers, developers, venture capital funds, and curious attendees with badges around their necks - that one of those moments unfolds where people remain standing just to avoid losing their spot. On stage steps Vincenzo Piccolo, CEO and co-founder of Callin.io.

The thesis of his talk is condensed into a single question projected in giant letters behind him: what if your next hire was an AI agent?

«What if your next hire was an AI agent?» - Vincenzo Piccolo, Ceo of Callin.io, AI Week 2026

Behind the provocation lies the paradigm shift the startup has been pursuing for some time: moving voice agents out of the category of “tools” and into the category of “colleagues.”

Not an assistant that simply executes commands, but an AI employee capable of completing tasks - and doing so within the workflows and software companies already use, from CRM systems to calendars and phone systems. On this front, Callin.io brings considerable weight:

over 3,500 voice agents already active on the platform and an architecture built around eight modules covering marketing, sales, customer support, operations, and even recruitment.

But the real reason why their AI Week is worth talking about is not what was said on stage. It is what they brought to the exhibition

The thesis of the talk in one question. For Callin.io, the voice agent is no longer a tool, but a workforce member.

The agent that joins video calls

For years, conversational agents had only one sensory organ - hearing - and only one output: voice. With AI Video Agents, unveiled in Milan, Callin.io adds the missing piece: a face. It is an AI video agent that joins Google Meet - the avatar appears in the meeting like any other participant and works side by side with the sales team, in real time.

In practical terms, it does three things. It qualifies leads during the video conference itself, collecting information and separating hot leads from cold ones before a human even intervenes.

It supports the salesperson throughout negotiations, retrieving the right information at the right moment and handling common objections without slowing down the rhythm of the conversation. And - here comes the showstopper that made many visitors stop at the booth - it acts as a simultaneous translator: the avatar understands and responds in the interlocutor’s language, breaking down language barriers in cross-border negotiations.

For an SME selling internationally, this is not just an aesthetic detail. It is the difference between losing a deal because the other side does not speak the same language and closing it because someone - or something - speaks that language for you, at virtually zero marginal cost and without notice.

Video calls, until now an exclusively human domain, become the second channel managed by a Callin.io agent after the phone.

The inbox that replies to emails

If video agents are the product that grabs attention, the second announcement is the one that saves hours of work. Callin.io introduced at the exhibition a new AI email management software designed for three sectors constantly battling with email: e-commerce, property managers, and professional firms.

This is not just another spam filter with a few automation rules. The system reads the message, understands the intent, classifies it, prepares or sends a response, and - when the issue falls outside its scope - hands it over to the right person, complete with all the necessary context.

  • For e-commerce businesses, this means managing high volumes of requests related to orders, returns, and shipments without overwhelming customer support.

  • For property managers, it means automatically routing tenant and owner requests while providing an immediate first response.

  • For professional firms, it acts as a triage system for incoming correspondence: first responses, routing, and prioritization, leaving people to handle only the matters that truly require expertise.

Among the 30,000 AI Week visitors, part of the audience followed Callin.io’s talk standing up.

The question with ore CEO opened remains - and by the end of the day, it sounds far less provocative than it did at the beginning. If your next hire were an AI agent, where would you put it to work?

The answer Callin.io brought to Milan is that there is no need to choose just one: it is already on the phone, it has just arrived in video calls, and it is now entering the inbox.
